When man went barefoot his feet were making constant contact with the earth. Yielding or unyielding, the ground was continually massaging the soles of his feet, sustaining the clear flow of energy necessary in the struggle for survival.
But that was long ago. Few people today in the western world ever go barefoot.
The pleasurable and therapeutic benefits of massaging the feet have long been recognised. There is evidence that compression massage on the feet was used as long ago as 5,000 years ago in China. In ancient Egypt and India too, manipulating particular points on the feet was known to have a healing effect.
The feet are a mini-map of the body. In Reflexology the body is divided into ten longitudinal zones, five on each side of the spine, from the big toe to the top of the head, and four transverse zones. All the organs, muscles and functions of the body lie in one or more of these zones and their corresponding reflexes are found in the same zones on the feet. Each zone is a channel for energy and any blockage in that energy flow affects the organs or functions within it, leading to dis-ease. These obstructions can be caused by crystals made from some of the waste products which build up in the body when it is not working to plan and can be broken down by Reflexology to be expelled. So, by using compression massage to manipulate particular reflex points on the feet, energy channels can be cleared of blockages in corresponding areas of the body. This results in restoring a clear energy flow, revitalising the body so that natural healing can occur, restoring mental alertness, reducing tension, calming the mind and improving energy.
You owe it to your feet to do something good for them. You will be amazed how much your feet need Reflexology.
